Historia y distribución/History and distribution: A rare herb in western Puerto Rico at low to middle elevations. Major geographic regions following Axelrod (2011): Western Cordillera. Botanically unique areas following Axelrod (2011): Cerro Las Mesas. Also collected in 1938 in Santana, Arecibo, in the Northern Coastal Plains (Vélez 1398, 1399 US in Acevedo-Rodríguez & Strong 2005). Woodbury et al. (1975) also reported it for the Laguna Tortuguero area (as S. triglomerata).

(1975), quienes la clasificaron como una especie en peligro no endémica de Puerto Rico (especie No. 435). Fue listada como Elemento Crítico por el DRNA en 1988 y 1999, pero fue removida de la lista de 2007. No fue incluida como una especie conocida de tres o menos localidades en Puerto Rico y las Islas Vírgenes por Figueroa Colon & Woodbury (1996) o por Figueroa Colon (1996).

This was first listed as a rare species in Puerto Rico by Woodbury et al. (1975), who classified it as a rare species not endemic to Puerto Rico (species No. 435). It was listed as a Critical Element by DNER in 1988 and 1999, but was omitted from the 2007 list. It was not included as a species known from three or fewer locations in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands by Figueroa Colon & Woodbury (1996) or by Figueroa Colon (1996).
