Historia y distribución/History and distribution: Although cited as native to Puerto Rico in the Flora of the West Indies (Acevedo-Rodríguez & Strong 2012, 2015), Liogier & Martorell (1982, 2000) and Liogier (1997 [V:47-48]) cited this as probably escaped from cultivation in Puerto Rico; it was not reported by Britton & Wilson (1923-1930). Axelrod (2011) treated this as a naturalized exotic, and it was not included as part of the native flora of Puerto Rico by Miller et al. (2012). We treat this as a naturalized exotic in Puerto Rico.
