This was listed as a Critical Element by DNER in 1988, 1999 and 2007. It was not included as a species known from three or fewer locations in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands by Figueroa Colon & Woodbury (1996) or by Figueroa Colon (1996). Miller et al. (2012b) gave it a provisional global rank of Endangered using the IUCN Red List criteria, based on fewer than five locations.
