ESTATUS EN LA ISLA DE PUERTO RICO/STATUS ON THE ISLAND OF PUERTO RICO
Presencia/Occurence: Presuntamente extirpado o extinto/Presumed extirpated or extinct.

Origen/Origin: Nativo/Native.

Historia y distribución/History and distribution: Un helecho terrestre, raro, citado por Maxon (1926, p. 468) como recolectado por Sintenis (6445), pero no visto por él. Liogier & Martorell (1982) la reportaron para las Montañas de Luquillo, pero Proctor (1989) y subsecuentemente otros establecieron correctamente que el espécimen había sido recolectado en Utuado el 12 de marzo de 1887. En otras partes de su distribución, crece sobre bancos sombreados y húmedos y en quebradas muy húmedas en elevaciones medias-altas; una posible característica diagnóstica es la presencia de pequeños bulbillos prolíferos en las bases de algunas de las pinas distales (Proctor 1989). Citada por Axelrod (2011) como un taxón no recolectado recientemente. No hay registros de esta en MAPR (Jeanine Vélez, com. email 2016).

A rare terrestrial fern cited by Maxon (1926, p. 468) as collected by Sintenis (6445), but not seen by him. Liogier & Martorell (1982) reported this for the Luquillo Mountains, but Proctor (1989) and subsequently others correctly stated that the specimen had been collected in Utuado on March 12, 1887. In other parts of its range, it grows on moist shaded banks and in wet ravines at upper-middle elevations; a possible diagnostic feature is the presence of small proliferous bulbils at the bases of some of the distal pinnae (Proctor 1989). Listed as a taxon not recently collected by Axelrod (2011). There are no records of this at MAPR (Jeanine Vélez, email comm. 2016).
