Historia y distribución/History and distribution: Una hierba rara en en elevaciones bajas. Principales regiones geográficas conforme a Axelrod (2011): Costa Oriental (Punta Guayanés), Llanuras Costeras del Norte (Laguna Tortuguero). Áreas botánicamente únicas conforme a Axelrod (2011): Punta Guayanés, Laguna Tortuguero. Quizá recolectada por última vez en Laguna Tortuguero por Roy Woodbury en 1963 (n.a. 441797 NY), pero presuntamente existente en Punta Guayanés (Axelrod 2015 UPRRP, 2744 UPRRP). Hay varios especímenes etiquetados como esta especie en el herbario MAPR en línea, pero muchas si no todas ellas pueden ser malas identificaciones de Piriqueta cistoides. Ne necesita una revisión.

A rare herb in at low elevations. Major geographic regions following Axelrod (2011): Eastern Coast (Punta Guayanés), Northern Coastal Lowlands (Laguna Tortuguero). Botanically unique areas following Axelrod (2011): Punta Guayanés, Laguna Tortuguero. Perhaps last collected at Laguna Tortuguero by Roy Woodbury in 1963 (a.n. 441797 NY), but presumed extant at Punta Guayanés (Axelrod 2015 UPRRP, 2744 UPRRP). There are a number of specimens labeled as this at the MAPR herbarium online, but many if not all of these may be misidentifications of Piriqueta cistoides. A review is needed.

(1975), quienes la clasificaron como una especie en peligro no endémica de Puerto Rico (especie No. 399). Fue listada como Elemento Crítico por el DRNA en 1988 y 1999 (como en peligro crítico), pero fue removida en 2007. No fue incluida como una especie conocida de tres o menos localidades en Puerto Rico y las Islas Vírgenes por Figueroa Colon & Woodbury (1996) o por Figueroa Colon (1996).

This was first listed as a rare species in Puerto Rico by Woodbury et al. (1975), who classified it as an endangered species not endemic to Puerto Rico (species No. 399). It was listed as a Critical Element by DNER in 1988 and 1999 (as critically imperiled), but was removed from the list in 2007. It was not included as a species known from three or fewer locations in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands by Figueroa Colon & Woodbury (1996) or by Figueroa Colon (1996).
