Historia y distribución/History and distribution: Un arbusto raro registrado por Cogniaux (1886) como recolectado por Riedlé (Britton & Wilson 1925 [VI(1), p. 12], Liogier & Martorell 1982, Liogier 1995 [IV, p. 23], Liogier & Martorell 2000). No se conocen reportes posteriores o especímenes de herbario existentes. Excluido por Axelrod (2011) como un ocurrencia dudoso, pero aceptado por Acevedo-Rodríguez & Strong (2012, 2016). No hay registros de esta en MAPR (Jeanine Vélez, com. email 2016).

A rare shrub recorded by Cogniaux (1886) as collected by Riedlé (Britton & Wilson 1925 [VI(1), p. 12], Liogier & Martorell 1982, Liogier 1995 [IV, p. 23], Liogier & Martorell 2000). No subsequent reports or extant herbarium specimens are known. Excluded by Axelrod (2011) as a doubtful occurrence, but accepted by Acevedo-Rodríguez & Strong (2012, 2016). There are no records of this at MAPR (Jeanine Vélez, email comm. 2016).

Notas de Conservación/Conservation Notes: Fue listada por primera vez como especie rara en Puerto Rico por Woodbury et al. (1975), quienes la clasificaron como una especie en peligro no endémica de Puerto Rico (especie No. 281); Woodbury aparentemente nunca la observó. Fue listada como Elemento Crítico por el DRNA en 1988 y 1999, pero fue removida en 2007. No fue incluida como una especie conocida de tres o menos localidades en Puerto Rico y las Islas Vírgenes por Figueroa Colon & Woodbury (1996) o por Figueroa Colon (1996). Miller et al. (2012b) le dieron un rango global provisional como Vulnerable usando los criterios de la Lista Roja de la IUCN, basado en menos de cinco localidades.

This was first listed as a rare species in Puerto Rico by Woodbury et al. (1975), who classified it as an endangered species not endemic to Puerto Rico (species No. 281); Woodbury apparently never observed this. It was listed as a Critical Element by DNER in 1988 and 1999, but was removed from the list in 2007. It was not included as a species known from three or fewer locations in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands by Figueroa Colon & Woodbury (1996) or by Figueroa Colon (1996). Miller et al. (2012b) gave it a provisional global rank of Vulnerable using the IUCN Red List criteria, based on fewer than five locations.
