Historia y distribución/History and distribution: Un helecho epífito, raro, reportado por Maxon (1947) como recolectado por Schwanecke (B) sin datos de localidad exacta (también Liogier & Martorell 1982, Proctor 1989, Liogier & Martorell 2000, Axelrod 2011). Proctor (1989) reportó su hábitat general como troncos de árboles sombreados, tocones, y troncos caídos en bosques húmedos en elevaciones medias. Excluído por Axelrod (2011) basado en la falta de especímenes. Esta especie no está listada en el Herbarium Berolinense en línea (2015), así que el espécimen fue probablemente destruido durante la II Guerra Mundial. Está ampliamente distribuida en las Indias Occidentales, desde las Antillas Menores (Granada a St. Kitts) hasta la Española, Cuba y Jamaica. A rare epiphytic fern reported by Maxon (1947) as collected by Schwanecke (B) without exact locality data (also Liogier & Martorell 1982, Proctor 1989, Liogier & Martorell 2000, Axelrod 2011). Proctor (1989) reported its general habitat as shaded tree trunks, stumps, and logs in moist forests at middle elevations. Excluded by Axelrod (2011) based on a lack of specimens. This species in not listed in the Herbarium Berolinense online (2015), so the specimen was likely destroyed during World War II. It is widespread in the West Indies, from the Lesser Antilles (Grenada to St. Kitts) to Hispaniola, Cuba and Jamaica. It is more probable that this was historically present in Puerto Rico and collected by Schwanecke, than it is that the Schwanecke collection was an error and the historical range skipped from St. Kitts to the Dominican Republic. Howard (1977) noted that is an inconspicuous and easily overlooked species. We treat it as an historical part of the Puerto Rican flora, now presumed extirpated.
