Historia y distribución/History and distribution: Una hierba arbustiva rara, citada como plantada y persitente en Puerto Rico por Axelrod (2011). Sin embargo, Puerto Rico está dentro del rango nativo de la especie y es aceptada como nativa por Acevedo-Rodríguez & Strong (2005, 2012, 2015). Fue citada por Britton & Wilson (1924 [I(2): 174]) para valles sombreados y húmedos, y quizá recolectada por última vez en la naturaleza por Roy Woodbury en Humacao (a.n. 4871 UPR). Es también cultivada en la isla.

A rare shrubby herb cited as planted and persistent in Puerto Rico by Axelrod (2011). However, Puerto Rico is within the native range of the species and it is accepted as native by Acevedo-Rodríguez & Strong (2005, 2012, 2015). It was cited by Britton & Wilson (1924 [I(2): 174]) for damp shaded valleys, and perhaps last collected in the wild by Roy Woodbury in Humacao (a.n. 4871 UPR). It is also cultivated on the island.

(1975), quienes la clasificaron como una especie en peligro no endémica de Puerto Rico (especie No. 409). Fue listada como Elemento Crítico por el DRNA en 1988 y 1999, pero fue removida en 2007. No fue incluida como una especie conocida de tres o menos localidades en Puerto Rico y las Islas Vírgenes por Figueroa Colon & Woodbury (1996) o por Figueroa Colon (1996). Es recomendada para revisión como de interés para la conservación en Puerto Rico.

This was first listed as a rare species in Puerto Rico by Woodbury et al. (1975), who classified it as an endangered species not endemic to Puerto Rico (species No. 409). It was listed as a Critical Element by DNER in 1988 and 1999, but was removed from the list in 2007. It was not included as a species known from three or fewer locations in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands by Figueroa Colon & Woodbury (1996) or by Figueroa Colon (1996). It is recommended for review as a conservation concern in Puerto Rico.
