ESTATUS EN LA ISLA DE PUERTO RICO/STATUS ON THE ISLAND OF PUERTO RICO
Presencia/Occurence: Presuntamente extirpado o extinto/Presumed extirpated or extinct.

Origen/Origin: Nativo/Native.

Historia y distribución/History and distribution: A rare fern collected in the early 19th century by Schwanecke (B, fragment at US in Proctor 1989) without definite locality (Maxon 1926, Proctor 1989, Liogier & Martorell 2000). There is also a specimen collected in 1928 by Shoemaker (a.n. 1273095 US) online at the US herbarium. A specimen collected by Thomas Croat attributed to this online on TROPICOS (60873 MO), may be a misidentification of A. cristatum or another Asplenium species; it is described as "common" at a locality in the Río Abajo State Forest. Cited as a doubtful occurrence in Axelrod (2011), but we treat this as presumed extirpated in Puerto Rico. There are no records of this at MAPR (Jeanine Vélez, email comm. 2016).
