Florida Keys History and Distribution: First collected between 1838 and 1853 by John Loomis Blodgett on the island of Key West. Reported in 1913 by John Kunkel Small for pinelands, hammocks and disturbed areas in the lower Keys and lower sandy Keys. Several collections and reports were made from the Dry Tortugas north to Elliott Key, but most populations in the Florida Keys appear to be extirpated.
