South Florida History and Distribution: Ranked as critically imperiled in Rare Plants of South Florida (
Gann et al. 2002; pp 305-307) based on one occurrence in Biscayne National Park, Miami-Dade County. A reintroduction program at Long Key State Park is in process. This is widely cultivated in South Florida, from both native and introduced germplasm.

Florida Keys History and Distribution: Reported in
1913 by John Kunkel Small for hammocks on Elliott Key and Long Key. We considert this native to the upper Keys (Elliott Key) and middle Keys (Long Key), but presumed extirpated in the middle Keys.
