South Florida History and Distribution: Ranked as critically imperiled in Rare Plants of South Florida (Gann et al. 2002; pp 222-224) based on one occurrence in the National Key Deer Refuge and surrounding private properties on Big Pine Key. Also recorded in 2007 in a Monroe County conservation area on Cudjoe Key (Woodmansee 1982 USF).

Florida Keys History and Distribution: Reported in 1884 by J. Cosmo Melvill for the island of Key West.  Reported in 1913 by John Kunkel Small for pinelands in the lower Keys.  Reported for the lower sandy Keys by Davis (1942), presumably in error.  We consider this native and extant in the lower Keys.  For more information, see IRC's species account.
