Reported in 1920 by Britton & Millspaugh for disturbed areas in the northwestern Commonwealth (New Providence near Nassau). Reported by Correll & Correll (1982: 1359-1360, with illustrations) as spontaneous after cultivation in the northwestern Commonwealth (region 8).
