Native Status: Native

Native Range: The Bahamas and southeastern United States. Variety lindheimeri is found in the West Indies, Mexico and Central America.

History in the Bahamas: Not listed in Britton & Millspaugh (1920), but this could have easily been misidentified as T. kunthii. Reported by Correll & Correll (1982: 51-52) for the walls of sinkholes and banana holes in coppices in the northwestern Commonwealth (regions 9-8).
