History in the Bahamas:
Reported by Correll & Correll (1982: 1357-1358) for "sandy open soil, especially where water has drained from dirt roadways" and as endemic to the Turks and Caicos Islands. Similar to S. bracteosum and differing in the hairs on the upper leaf surfaces.
