Native Range: The West Indies, United States, Mexico and Central America (Belize); scattered.

History in the Bahamas: Reported in 1920 by Britton & Millspaugh for salinas and edges of mangrove swamps in the northwestern and central Commonwealth (Andros, Ship Channel Cay, Cat Island, Long Island, Little San Salvador, Watling’s). Reported by Correll & Correll (1982: 507) for “rock flats and mud about ponds, and disturbed soil about beach areas” nearly throughout the northwestern Commonwealth (regions 9-4, 2).
