History in the Bahamas:
Reported in 1920 by Britton & Millspaugh for coppices and shrublands in the northwestern Commonwealth (Grand Bahama, Abaco, Andros, New Providence, Eleuthera). Reported by Correll & Correll (1982: 862) for coppices and shrublands in the northwestern Commonwealth (regions 10-8). The typical variety of I. nitida has been reported for the Bahamas in error.
