History in the Bahamas:
Listed by Britton & Millspaugh (1920), but placed into synonymy under
Evolvulus arbuscula by Correll & Correll (1982). Both
Evolvulus arbuscula and
Evolvulus bahamensis are listed for the Bahamas in the Flora of the West Indies (Acevedo-RodrÃguez & Strong 2012 and see link below), but this appears to be in error (see Ooststroom 1934, pages 13-14 & 177-181). If the species are segregated, then
Evolvulus arbuscula is endemic to the Greater Antilles. The assertion that
Evolvulus bahamensis is endemic to the Turks and Caicos Islands (Freid et al. 2014) also appears to be in error. The Bahamian taxon is given a broader range in Britton & Millspaugh, Ooststroom and Correll & Correll, from the Turks and Caicos north to Eleuthera.
