History in the Bahamas: On beach dunes, and in coastal thickets and coppices; nearly throughout the archipelago (Correll & Correll, 1982). Also cited for Haiti (based on Urban 4191, US) by Negorn-Ortiz & Hickey (1996).

Comments: For an image of a type specimen collected on Long Island by Nathaniel L. Britton and Charles F. Millspaugh in 1907, visit the New York Botanical Garden Virtual Herbarium.
