Native Range: The West Indies, Mexico, Central America and South America; naturalized in Florida.

History in the Bahamas: Reported in 1920 by Britton & Millspaugh for the Turks and Caicos (South Caicos) without habitat, but with a note that this species is commonly found in disturbed area.

Comments: A common weed in the West Indies and tropical America, but listed only for open coppices in the Turks & Caicos by Correll & Correll (1982: 96-97, with illustrations).
