Native Range: The West Indies, peninsular Florida, southern Mexico and Central America.

History in the Bahamas: Reported in 1920 by Britton & Millspaugh for sinkholes and pinelands from the northwestern to central Commonwealth (Abaco, Grand Bahama, New Providence, Andros, Eleuthera, Cat Island). Reported by Correll & Correll (1982: 5-6, with illustrations) for sinkholes and pinelands nearly throughout the Commonwealth (10-6, 4, 3).
