Native Range: The Bahamas and southeastern United States.

History in the Bahamas: Not listed in Britton & Millspaugh (1920), Hitchcock (1936) or Correll & Correll (1982) for the Bahamas. Reported for the Bahamas by Campbell (1983) and Acevedo-Rordíguez & Strong (2012, 2015). Perhaps collected once on Grand Bahama by Donovan Correll & Robert Kral (43036 VDB in Campbell 1983). A duplicate of this specimen at NY is still catalogued as Andropogon virginicus. This is easly confused with A. virginicus; the A. virginicus complex in the Bahamas is in need of review.
