South Florida History and Distribution: This was reported as possibly extirpated in South Florida in
Gann et al. (2002; pp 136-137), based on herbarium specimens collected from Lee and Palm Beach counties and the Monroe County Keys from 1925 to 1997. The locality of the 1997 collection, Sea Oats Beach on Lower Matecumbe Key was heavily impacted by hurricanes Georges (1998) and Irene (1999) and subsequent clearing activities. Alan Franck observed this in 2021 at the northeastern end of Lower Matecumbe Key and reported it on
iNaturalist.
