Historia y distribución/History and distribution:
Un helecho terrestre, raro, en el este de Puerto Rico en elevaciones bajas. Principales regiones geográficas conforme a Axelrod (2011): Sierra de Luquillo. Áreas botánicamente únicas conforme a Axelrod (2011): ninguna. Recolectado una vez en 1902 por Percy Wilson (318 US) en la Sierra de Luquillo sin localidad específica (Maxon 1926, Liogier & Martorell 1982, Proctor 1989, Liogier & Martorell 2000). Proctor (1989) sugirió que el hábitat para este espécimen era quebrada protegida húmeda en elevaciones medias (400-600 m). Axelrod (2011) también citó una colección de George Proctor hecha en 1988 (44489 SJ), pero no fue inluida en Proctor (1989). Los datos para este espécimen son: “Rio Grande: Sierra de Luquillo: Bosque Nacional del Caribe, Carretera 191, km 9.4, Quebrada Juan Diego, elevación 480-500 m. Sobre orilla sommbreada húmeda, muy raro.” No se conocen colecciones adicionales, pero Howard (1968) lo citó para el área de la cima de Pico del Oeste del Bosque Nacional El Yunque, un área de alta elevación.

A rare terrestrial fern in eastern Puerto Rico at low elevations. Major geographical regions following Axelrod (2011): Sierra de Luquillo. Botanically unique areas following Axelrod (2011): none. Collected once in 1902 by Percy Wilson (318 US) in the Sierra de Luquillo without specific locality (Maxon 1926, Liogier & Martorell 1982, Proctor 1989, Liogier & Martorell 2000). Proctor (1989) suggested that the habitat for this specimen was a moist sheltered ravine at middle elevations (400-600 m). Axelrod (2011) also cited a collection by George Proctor made in 1988 (44489 SJ), but not included in Proctor (1989). The data for this specimen are: “Rio Grande: Sierra de Luquillo: Caribbean National Forest, Road 191, km 9.4, Quebrada Juan Diego, elev 480-500 m. On moist shaded bank, very rare.” No additional collections are known, but Howard (1968) cited this for the Pico del Oeste summit area of El Yunque National Forest, an area of higher elevation.
