South Florida History and Distribution: This is very rare in South Florida, known only from the Miami Rock Ridge, the southeastern Everglades and the Florida Keys. Using modern NatureServe criteria, we re-ranked this as Imperiled in South Florida in July, 2018.

Florida Keys History and Distribution: Collected by John Kunkel Small on Big Pine Key in 1912 (Small 3749, NY) and reported by him in
1913 for hammocks in the lower Keys. Mapped by Elbert L. Little, Jr. (1978) for the upper Keys, where native and still extant. We treat this as presumed extirpated in the lower Keys.
