Comments: John Kunkel Small (1913, 1933) considered this to be a native of tropical America and introduced into South Florida. Ledin (1951) also thought this was probably introduced here. Other authors differ in their opinions, but we believe the weight of opinion is that this is not native to South Florida.

1913 by John Kunkel Small for hammocks and disturbed areas in Key West. Apparently introduced and spreading as a weed throughout the Florida Keys.
