South Florida History and Distribution: Ranked as critically imperiled in Rare Plants of South Florida (
Gann et al. 2002; pp 378-379) based on two occurrences in two conservation areas: Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park, both in Collier County. While still present in the Fakahatchee, this was not recorded for Corkscrew Swamp Sancuary by Wilder and McCollom (2018) and is presumed extirpated there. There is also an additional report by FNAI botanist Gary Schultz in 2001 for Picayune Strand State Forest, but this remains unverified.
