South Florida History and Distribution: Ranked as presumed extirpated in Rare Plants of South Florida (
Gann et al. 2002, pp 57-58) based on a single population in what is now the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park. Discovered in 1956, this was nearly wiped out by 1966 and last reported in the wild in 1972. It has not been rediscovered despite more than 300 surveys conducted by Mike Owen and others from 1993 to 2022.
