South Florida History and Distribution: This was reported as possibly extirpated in South Florida in
Gann et al. (2002; pp 115-116), based on herbarium specimens collected from 1919 to 1922 in Lee and Collier counties, mostly near the coast, and a 1994 Florida Park Service report from Koreshan State Historic Site near Estero. A new collection in South Florida was made in 2010 by Alan Franck in Charlotte County at the Prairie Creek Preserve (
2882 USF), and Jay Horn reported an
iNaturalist record in 2020 at Koreshan State Park, where it had previously been reported.
