A small bird measuring up to 5 inches in length. Black and white stripes, including crown. The male has a black throat and the female's throat is white.
Breeds in eastern Noth America and winters in southern North America, Central America, South America, and the West Indies.
Deciduous forests, parks, gardens, and lawns.
4 or 5 purple-spotted white eggs are laid in a ground nest.
Natural History:
This species creeps on tree trunks.
This species feeds on insects and spiders.
Can be found in South Florida during the winter months only.
