Description:
A medium-sized bird measuring up to 9 inches in length. Red hood from top of head to back of neck, back barred black and white, and a reddish patch on abdomen.
Range:
Resident in the southeast United States.
Habitat(s):
Woodlands, forests, gardens, and parks.
Reproduction:
2 to 6 white eggs are laid in a tree cavity.
Food:
This species feeds on arthropods, seeds, fruit, sap, reptiles, amphinians, fish, birds, and eggs.
Comments:
May be found in South Florida year round.
