Availability:
Rarely grown by native plant nurseries.
Description: Perennial sedge with extensive, branching red rhizomes. Upright stems up to 3 feet tall are sharply triangular.
Dimensions: Typically 3 feet in height.
Range:
Western United States and Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States south to Lee and Martin Counties.

Habitats: Wet, fresh to brackish or saline shores and marshes.
Soils: Wet to dry, well-drained to poorly drained sandy soils, without humus.
Salt Water Tolerance: Moderate; tolerates brackish water or occasional inundation by salt water.
Salt Wind Tolerance: Moderate; grows near salt water, but is protected from direct salt spray by other vegetation.
Drought Tolerance: Low; requires moist to wet soils and is intolerant of long periods of drought.
Light Requirements: Full sun.
Flowering Season: Spring-fall.
