Description: Biennial or leafy annual with leafy, hairy stems 5 feet tall. Showy, tubular red flowers 1 inch long.
Dimensions: Typically 3-5 feet in height.
Growth Rate: Fast.
Range:
Scattered in northern and central Florida south to Indian River, Lake, Sumpter, and Levy counties.

Habitats: Sandhills and dunes.
Soils: Well drained, sandy soil.
Salt Water Tolerance: Low; does not tolerate long-term flooding by salt or brackish water.
Salt Wind Tolerance: Secondary line; tolerates significant salt wind without injury, but usually is somewhat protected.
Drought Tolerance: High; does not require any supplemental water once established.
Light Requirements: Full sun.
Flower Color: Red.
Flower Characteristics: Showy.
Flowering Season: Summer to fall.
Wildlife and Ecology: Valuable source of nectar for birds.
