General Landscape Uses: Primarily recommended for natural landscapes and habitat restorations.

Availability: Grown by enthusiasts and occasionally by native plant nurseries.

Description: Medium erect shrub.

Dimensions: About 5-6 feet in height. Usually taller than broad.

Growth Rate: Moderate.

Range: Miami-Dade County; West Indies. In Miami-Dade County, native only from Long Pine Key in Everglades National Park northeast along the Miami Rock Ridge to about Snapper Creek.

Habitats: Rockland hammock edges and pine rocklands.

Soils: Moist, well-drained limestone soils, with humusy top layer.

Nutritional Requirements: Moderate; can grow in nutrient poor soils, but needs some organic content to thrive.

Salt Water Tolerance: Low; does not tolerate long-term flooding by salt or brackish water.

Salt Wind Tolerance: Low; salt wind may burn the leaves.

Drought Tolerance: High; does not require any supplemental water once established.

Light Requirements: Full sun.

Flower Color: White to pinkish white.

Flower Characteristics: Semi-showy flowering heads.

Flowering Season: All year.

Fruit: Inconspicuous achene.

Horticultural Notes: Can be grown from seed.

Comments: It is listed as endangered by the state of Florida.
