Description: |

Small butterfly measuring up to 1 1/2" in length. The wings are dark brown in color, the upperside has a few pale spots, the underside has yellow veins and a short white bar. The caterpillar is yellowish green. |

Southeast and eastern United States. |
Distribution and Abundance in Florida: |

Coastal salt and brackish marshes, occasionally in nearby fields and wood edges. |
Reproduction: |
|
Several broods from February to December in Florida. Light green eggs are laid singly on host leaves. |
Natural History: |
|
Adults have a low, rapid flight. |
Food: |
|
Larval host plants include the native saltgrass (Distichlis spicata). Nectar host plants include the native blue mistflower (Conoclinium coelestinum ) and thistle (Cirsium spp.) and the nonnative red clover (Trifolium pratense). |
