Description:
Wildflower with single, velvety, greenish to greenish purple leaf in the winter arising from underground tubers. Flower stem 9-12 inches tall with 2 dozen or more small green or purplish green flowers.
Height:
Up to one foot in height.
Growth Rate:
Moderate.
Range:
Eastern and Southern United States south through the Florida Panhandle to Marion county.
Habitats:
Hammocks and ravine forests.
Soils:
Moist, well-drained sandy or limestone soils, with humusy top layer.
Nutritional Requirements:
Moderate; can grow in nutrient poor soils, but needs some organic content to thrive.
Salt Water Tolerance:
Low; does not tolerate long-term flooding by salt or brackish water.
Salt Wind Tolerance:
Low; salt wind may burn the leaves.
Drought Tolerance:
Moderate; generally requires moist soils, but tolerant of short periods of drought once established.
Light Requirements:
Light shade.
Flower Color:
Green or purplish green.
