Description:
	Perennial sedge with long rhizomes. Stiff stems 1/2 to 2 feet tall. Reddish leaf sheaths.
Height:
	Typically 6-24 inches in height.
Growth Rate:
Range:
	Scattered along the east coast south through the Florida Panhandle to Levy, Marion, and Hernando counties.
Habitats:
	Flatwood depressions, swamps, ponds, lakeshores, fresh to brackish marshes
Soils:
	Wet to moist, seasonally inundated organic, sandy or calcareous soils, with or without humusy top layer.
Nutritional Requirements:
	Moderate; can grow in nutrient poor soils, but needs some organic content to thrive.
Salt Water Tolerance:
	Moderate; tolerates brackish water or occasional inundation by salt water.
Salt Wind Tolerance:
	Low; salt wind may burn the leaves.
Drought Tolerance:
	Low; requires moist to wet soils and is intolerant of long periods of drought.
