Born and raised in Ecuador, Patty received a B.S. in biology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador in 2004. She earned her degree based on the thesis “Social behavior, reproduction, parental care and vocalizations of Colostethus kingsburyi (Anura: Dendrobatidae).” She published a paper describing the tadpole stage of C. kingburyi in the Journal of Herpetology in 2004. While in Ecuador, Patty spent eight years working in the field on a variety of animals including Andean condors, giant otters and a variety of frogs and other amphibians and reptiles. In 2005, Patty moved to Florida and secured a position with the University of Florida Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit where she assisted with field research on the endangered Florida snail kite, vegetation sampling and hydrologic monitoring through early 2006. Patty joined IRC in June, 2006 as a biologist and contributes to the expanding scope of IRC’s work on plants, animals and ecosystems.
